Let it be said at the outset that violin playing is not a science but an art, but this fact does not preclude the application of the laws of physics in the acquisition of manual skill. This means that we must conform, as nearly as possible, to natural law. All methods of playing stand condemned in proportion to their lack of conformity to these laws and only those players who most nearly approach a complete adjustment to them can attain the greatest fluency and ease of expression.
